Baked Ham Mac & Cheese

September 17, 2009

Yummmm. I love macaroni and cheese. Who doesn’t? Quintessential comfort food. Yes please. When I feel sad or down, I craaaave it.

This one is creamy with extra sharp cheddar cheese and delicious bites of salty ham.

Cook bowtie pasta as directed. Melt 1/4 c. butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add 1/2 teaspoon of minced garlic, cook one minute. Add 1/4 c. flour and stir the roux for about a minute. Add 2 cups of skim milk. Bring milk to a boil, allow to thicken, stirring occasionally. Add about half a block of shredded cheddar cheese.

When milk is thick, add freshly grated pepper and 4-5 drops of Tabasco sauce. Add salt to taste and about 1 cup of chopped ham. Toss with pasta mixture, pour into a sprayed 2 quart baking dish and bake for 25 minutes at 370 degrees or until golden and bubbly.
