The boob cookies

December 14, 2009

I’m a pretty firm believer that the best recipes in life often come from the product’s box. Mueller’s Mac and Cheese. San Georgio Lasagna. Chex mix. Quaker Oatmeal’s “Vanishing Oatmeal Raisin” cookies.

And the boobs.

At least 4 different people told me that these cookies are called boobs or breasts in their family, because….well, you can tell.

This recipe comes from the back of the holiday Hershey kisses bag, and boy oh boy is it delicious. They are easy and simple and everyone loves them.

They make your kitchen look like this…. but it’s worth it.

“Peanut Butter Blossoms” (ha, who knew?)

  • 48 Hershey kisses, unwrapped
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 3/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Granulated sugar

Preheat oven to 375. Beat shortening and peanut butter in a large bowl, add sugars and beat until fluffy. Add egg, milk, and vanilla, beat well. In a separate bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and salt; gradually beat into mixture.

Shape dough into 1-inch balls and roll in a small dish of granulated sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes or until you can tell they are getting brown on the bottom (mine always get brown on the bottom before they start getting brown on the top, so go by that instead). Immediately press a hershey kiss into the center of each cookie. Remove from the cookie sheet onto rack. Cool completely (I usually accelerate this by putting them in the fridge for about 30 minutes). Eat and enjoy!

“Blossoms”…that’s a nice way of saying boobs. Also, in my family’s home they are lovingly referred to as “Christmas Boobies” ever since an unfortunate incident when we added the kisses before baking and they melted into the what looked remarkably like nipples. Even more so than when you follow the directions and add the kisses at the end.
